Overview:

This fieldstrip folding knife is inspired by the USMC version of the mameluke sword.  Designed with classic looks and an entirely unique fieldstrip feature, this knife opens up to owners the possibility to perform simple cleaning and maintenance  as well as change the appearance and function of their knife to meet different environments and tastes of the user.  Aett Armorers combines precision CNC machining with old world craftsmanship to create a truly unique knife which pays homage to the past while looking forward to the future.

 

Fieldstrip:

• Rotate Takedown pin to unlock frames to allow left-hand frame to rotate away from right-hand frame
• Rotate left-hand frame 90 degrees away from right-hand frame
• Lift left-hand frame off of pivot pin
• Remove blade
• Knife now accessible for cleaning internals, changing pivot spacer washer, changing blade, changing blade lock tension or blade lock itself and changing scales now possible.

The Handle:

At the core of the knife there are 2 titanium frames which are PVD coated to achieve a durable and non-tarnishing finish. 

• The knife's fieldstrip feature is integral to the frames to provide an extremely strong assembled/locked state.  Uniquely, the frames are not screwed together and instead held in place with a slot running the entire length of the handle.
• The large pivot pin is rigidly mounted to the right-hand frame and serves duel purpose as a means to interlock left-hand frame together.
• Frames are machined as matched sets with serial number engraved on both right and left frames.  Unique engraving can be found in multiple places on the frames.
• Hardened stainless steel Blade Lock removes from frame without tools and is fitted with ceramic detent ball to provide a smooth and positive lockup.   Spring tension is user adjustable and allows you to get the exact feel you desire.
• 4 millimeter dia (over 1/8") hardened stainless steel screws and threaded lanyard posts are used to positively mount interchangeable scales to the frame.
• Scales are hand fit to frames and available in a variety of materials.  The USMC version uses high quality resin ivory for the classic mameluke sword appearance.  Various types and patterns of durable micarta are available as well as a variety of stabilized wood.  We only use stabilized wood for scales as it is far superior in stability and durability over many years. 

 

The Standard Blade: (Blades are easily swappable)

• First, blades are easily changed.  We will be offering different materials and shapes as the process is perfected for each.  Blade blanks will also be available so owners can try their hand at creating their own unique blade.
• Standard:  AEBL – Sabre ground to maintain edge strength and rigidity.  AEBL has been chosen as the standard blade material as it takes an excellent edge, holds it well and is easy to sharpen.
• Unique Flipper at tang – when open, flipper tab provides additional support against blade deflection.
• Engraving is standard on spine of blade.
• Subtle swedge (false edge) increases penetrating capability while still maintaining operator comfort for fine work (skinning, etc…)
• Drop point profile is standard
• Aett Armorers makers mark is laser engraved on blade.  Custom/personalized engraving will become available.

 

EDC Carry Clip:

• Orientated for Tip-Down  carry as this is recognized as the safest way to carry within a pocket.
• Easily removable without tools once knife is fieldstripped.  Removing Carry Clip leaves no open mounts on sides of knife to distract from aesthetics.  

 

Notable Features:

• Blade Lock Lever is recessed into the frame to make lockup more secure.
• Pivot pin is integral to right-hand frame and frame itself interlocks within blade pivot area to resist shearing. 
• Smooth, classic lines provide timeless beauty as trends come and go.  These smooth lines also take the wide variety of engraving and finish options we offer very well.

Maker’s Commentary on Above Image:

 

"I had machined both sides many times to fine tune the fit and function of the field strip feature, but this was the 1st run at machining the outside of the right hand (RH) Frame. I’m very happy with the initial results of machining the contours of the hilt and the stars on the scale mounts. This is prototyped in aluminum and the results are nearly as good as I could expect prior to polishing.
